The Gilroy Transit Center is a 7.8-acre property located at Monterey Highway and 7th Street in Gilroy, California. This property currently serves as a Park & Ride lot for Caltrain and VTA Bus passengers.
This land has the potential for mixed-use Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Projects that are transit-oriented allow people to live and work near public transportation, which helps clear the air, ease traffic, and adds infrastructure investments to the community.
VTA's Transit-Oriented Development Program works with municipal, non-profit, and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community.
Station Access Study
VTA initiated the Gilroy Station Access Study to analyze multi-modal station access and circulation at the Gilroy Transit Center. Recommendations may include improving bicycle connectivity, pedestrian access, wayfinding signage, transit passenger amenities, traffic calming measures and/or other safety enhancements. The study will develop access improvements and cost estimates for the station site and surrounding station area (within ½ mile) for future funding opportunities.
Community Engagement
VTA recently completed a series of pop-up events and an online survey to determine how people access the transit center. A final report (Station Access Study) will provide proposed access improvements, travel demand management strategies, and cost estimates for the identified access improvements at the Gilroy Transit Center.
Community Outreach
VTA delivers outreach to the community in many ways, from email, web page posting like this, signage, tabling at events, presenting at your neighborhood association, and by mail notifications, to name a few. We use multiple approaches to ensure the community is informed and allow for authentic engagement.
Community Meetings
On April 22, 2021, VTA held a community meeting to continue to discuss the community’s vision for the site. During the meeting, VTA presented conceptual designs and asked the community for their feedback. Did you miss it? Did you miss it?
