Gilroy Transit Center Transit-Oriented Development

The Gilroy Transit Center is a 7.8-acre property located at Monterey Highway and 7th Street in Gilroy, California. This property currently serves as a Park & Ride lot for Caltrain and VTA Bus passengers.

This land has the potential for mixed-use Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Projects that are transit-oriented allow people to live and work near public transportation, which helps clear the air, ease traffic, and adds infrastructure investments to the community.

VTA's Transit-Oriented Development Program works with municipal, non-profit, and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community.

Station Access Study

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) initiated the Gilroy Station Access Study to analyze multi-modal station access and circulation at the Gilroy Transit Center. Recommendations may include improving bicycle connectivity, pedestrian access, wayfinding signage, transit passenger amenities, traffic calming measures and/or other safety enhancements. The study will develop access improvements and cost estimates for the station site and surrounding station area (within ½ mile) for future funding opportunities.

Community Engagement

VTA recently conducted a series of pop-up events, an online survey, and a station walk audit to determine how people access the transit center. We want to share what we learned and provide the opportunity to give feedback on proposed station access recommendations to ensure they meet the community’s expectations.

We are hosting pop-up events where you can connect with our staff and share your feedback in person. The dates, times, and locations are listed below:

We use multiple approaches to ensure the community is informed and allow for authentic engagement.
