Navigating to Winchester Boulevard from Highway 280 will be a bit easier in the near future, as plans progress to add a northbound offramp in the area. The I-280/Winchester Boulevard Interchange Improvement project is a collaboration among VTA, Caltrans, and the City of San Jose. A Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR)/Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed Project is now available for public review.
The project proposal includes building a new tunnel off-ramp from northbound 280 to Winchester Boulevard, via Tisch Way; construction of a new flyover connector ramp from northbound State Route 17 to northbound I-280; and replacing the existing Monroe Street pedestrian overcrossing.
The intent of this work is to improve the flow of traffic on the surrounding roadways, improve bicycle and pedestrian access and transit connectivity, and provide better access to the area from Highway 280.
Community members are welcome to provide input on the Draft EIR/EA. To do so, please submit comments by email to 280-winchester@vta.org or by mail to Caltrans, District 4-Office of Environmental Analysis, Attn: Charles Winter, P.O. Box 23660 MS-8B, Oakland, CA 94623-0660, by 5:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023.
