Accessory and Attached Dwelling Unit Incentives

Encourage more accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to increase housing density and affordability by gradually adding new housing in existing residential zones, reducing displacement, and providing housing for a wider range of ages.

Simplify the ADU approval process by providing pre-approved construction plans, expedited (e.g., 30-day) permit approval, and significantly reduced fees.

  • Reference local jurisdictional successes in loan programs, permitting, and other procedures to create a successful ADU program.
  • Support legislation that expands access to ADU funding and streamlining, such as SB 9 and other related legislation.
