In the coming years, Santa Clara County is projected to see more growth than any other county in the Bay Area. What are cities and VTA doing to prepare for this growth in a sustainable way? And how do we make sure that future development helps create vibrant spaces where people can work, live and play with easy access to public transit?
Ask VTA is a monthly facilitated question-and-answer series to share information and spur conversation on topics that shape transportation, climate, and land use issues. On August 7, we’ll focus on all things land use, housing, and developing greener, walkable communities near transit.
VTA’s Land Use and Transit Oriented Development programs aim to encourage smart growth in Santa Clara County. By working closely with municipal, non-profit, and private partners, we can encourage housing, retail, and employment centers to grow in places that will increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant and equitable community.
Doing so can also help cut down on the amount of driving and greenhouse gas emissions. Both in the short-term and long-range, coordinating land use and transportation strategies can be the key to meeting the needs of Santa Clara County.
Anyone interested in how – both now and in the future – should join and bring their questions.
