Since the first Ask VTA held in December 2022, the educational series has quickly become a favorite of both staff and participants. The ongoing series allows those involved to have deep and meaningful conversations related to diverse transportation topics. After seeking community feedback on potential subject ideas to discuss for the new year, VTA has come back with a variety of new and refreshed topics planned for 2024. The lineup includes upcoming sessions on the following:
- Light Rail: What’s Next?
- BART Silicon Valley Phase II – 2 Part Series
- Working with & for VTA
- Active Transportation
- Transit Service Planning & more!
Kicking off the series this month will be a facilitated question and answer session on the light rail system on January 25, 2024. RSVP on Eventbrite.
On December 11, 1987 VTA’s light rail opened for service. Over 35 years later, the light rail system has evolved to be essential in connecting riders throughout the valley.
Currently, VTA is working diligently on finding solutions to augment the overall service of the light rail. These efforts include exploring ways to reduce operational costs and identifying key investments and capital projects that will fulfill the agency’s primary need to improve the system’s speed and reliability. Future solutions include infrastructure improvement projects, investment in the next-generation light rail vehicles and the Eastridge to BART Regional Connector (EBRC) planned light rail extension project.
Although Ask VTA discussed the light rail in 2023, this upcoming session will revisit new project information and updates. Anyone interested in the inner workings of the light rail should bring their questions and join the discussion.
