Around 300 junior and senior students, predominantly Latino, from Apollo and Overfelt High Schools in San Jose, attended Apollo High School’s 10th Annual College & Career Fair 2024. The event brought together dozens of professionals, colleges, and organizations, including VTA, to provide students and prospective employers with opportunities to connect, build professional relationships, and explore potential job and internship prospects.
A total of 35 organizations participated: the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Veritext (Court Reporting), San Jose Police Department (SJPD), San Jose Fire Department (SJFD), Mission College, West Valley College, and Foothill College. Additionally, professionals from diverse fields such as law, technology, social work, real estate, and barbering were present to share valuable insights about starting careers in their respective fields.
VTA’s booths attracted significant attention, offering attendees information about career opportunities in civil engineering and project management, particularly with the construction of the East Bay Regional Connector (EBRC). The agency’s Joint Workforce Investment (JWI) team, in collaboration with the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 265 (ATU), also engaged students by highlighting various roles and career pathways within VTA.
Apollo High School’s program focuses on helping students earn the credits needed to graduate on time with a high school diploma while encouraging them to pursue higher education and career training through community college programs. The College & Career Fair is vital to this mission, equipping students with resources and inspiration to chart their futures.
