The streets of downtown Gilroy will be filled with color, music, and community spirit on Saturday, October 28th, from 1-7 p.m. Gilroy's first-ever La Ofrenda Festival is a blend of tradition, art, and community that promises to be a heartening experience for all!
Dia de Muertos is a Mexican tradition that celebrates death in life spanning over three millennia. The centerpiece of this celebration is the ofrenda, an altar adorned with candles, marigolds, photos, and favorite foods of the deceased. Ofrendas are prepared a few days before November 1st and 2nd when it's believed that the dead return to visit their loved ones.
At La Ofrenda Festival, you will see an array of these beautiful altars, each narrating a unique tale. You will find yourself amidst soulful performances and intriguing stalls showcasing local talent.
Adding a twist to the tradition, there's also a community bike ride. So, whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just someone looking for fun pedaling around, this is your chance to blend fitness with festivity!
