Labor Negotiations Continue as Possible Strike Looms; Public Urged to Explore Transportation Alternatives
03/03/2025

Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is actively working to reach an agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 265, which represents bus and light rail operators and other frontline staff, in advance of the current contract expiration on March 3, 2025 at midnight.

In mid-February, ATU members voted to authorize a potential strike. If an agreement is not reached, the union could strike affecting riders who rely on VTA to get to work, school, medical appointments and events.

Given this developing situation, VTA is encouraging residents and businesses to start preparing for alternative travel methods in case of a strike. Alternatives to public transportation include carpooling, ridesharing, taking regional rail, walking, and biking.

VTA Paratransit service will continue regular operations. In the event of the strike, VTA bus and light rail services will be unavailable. For the latest updates on transit services, check VTA's social media channels, Transit App, and/or visit its website.

ATU represents over 1,500 VTA employees, including bus and light rail operators, maintenance staff, dispatchers, fare inspectors and customer service representatives.
