As we’re less than halfway through the current year, it may seem like it’s a little early to start thinking about transit service for 2024. In fact, the development of VTA’s annual service plan starts in earnest each spring. The draft 2024 Transit Service Plan is now available for community members to review.
Each annual transit service plan defines VTA’s active routes, how frequently buses and light rail vehicles come, and how early and late they run. Minor service changes are then incorporated in April, August, and October.
There are fewer major changes in the 2024 plan than seen in some previous years. The 2024 Transit Service Plan will focus on key changes on some routes and minor changes on others. Items include:
- Upgrades in routing or late-night frequency for some bus routes;
- Schedule changes that will facilitate better transit connections as our partner transit agencies in our county make major schedule revisions;
- Modifications to late-night light rail service to accommodate ongoing light rail track maintenance;
- And school service adjustments that meet actual student demand.
Additionally, there are service changes adopted as part of the VTA’s 2023 Transit Service Plan that have yet to be implemented. These changes will be implemented as bus and light rail operator vacancies are filled and will signify a return to pre-pandemic service levels.
