Security Response to Cerone Picketing Car Accident
03/11/2025

If employees choose to picket, we ask that you do so peacefully. VTA does not condone or tolerate violence of any kind as a method of resolving tension and conflict.

On March 10, 2025, a VTA supervisor was involved in an accident at Cerone yard.  The accident took place in the roadway in front of the Cerone entrance while the VTA supervisor was exiting the location.

Video evidence obtained by VTA security reveals that several picketers (VTA employees, and coworkers of the driver) surrounded the vehicle in the roadway and began banging on the driver-side window and threatening the driver, who immediately became fearful for his safety and attempted to drive forward to leave the area.  Several picketers then jumped in front of the VTA vehicle as shown in the attached photo while others intensified their shouting and banging on both the driver's side and passenger windows.

San Jose Police responded to the incident to make an accident report.  Based on the facts and evidence they obtained, they determined that the VTA driver operating the vehicle was the victim and not at fault and that the picketers were purposefully jumping in front of the vehicle with the intent to cause an accident.

After this incident, the VTA supervisor's name and photograph were published on a social media post, deliberately mischaracterizing the incident, in a way that is not supported by the police investigation and is threatening towards the driver, their coworker.

Law enforcement is further investigating this matter, and it is being considered an act of workplace violence against the driver.  VTA will be submitting a Workplace Violence Prevention Incident Report to document the details regarding what occurred.
