Transforming the Santa Clara Caltrain station parking lot into a livable, walkable, shoppable community close to transit is the objective of our newest venture, and you’re invited to have some input on the plans at an upcoming community meeting.
The Santa Clara Transit Center Park & Ride Lot is located on Railroad Avenue @ Benton Street, across from Santa Clara University, and serves Caltrain, VTA bus service, and the Altamont Corridor Express.
The proposed development consists of two parcels: a 0.7-acre site owned by VTA, and a 1.7-acre site owned by the City of Santa Clara. The developer, Republic Metropolitan, is proposing a mixed-use project that will provide housing, and ground-floor retail on the VTA owned site. On the City owned property, the plans include student housing. There will still be room for parking for the Caltrain station as well.
VTA’s Transit Oriented Development Program works with municipal and private partners to encourage the development of housing, retail, and employment centers in places that will help increase transit ridership and contribute to a vibrant community.
During the community meeting, VTA and Republic Metropolitan staff will provide information on the proposal and then facilitate small breakout groups where you can share your ideas to help shape the neighborhood. We value your participation and encourage your attendance at this meeting.
