Summer is almost officially here, and we’re halfway through the year. Once again, VTA is thinking about transit service for 2025 and has developed the draft 2025 Transit Service Plan for the community’s review.
Each annual transit service plan defines VTA’s active routes, how frequently buses and light rail vehicles come, and how early and late they run. Every year, a draft annual transit plan is shared with the community in the summer, revised based on community feedback, and a final plan is presented to the VTA Board of Directors for adoption in the fall. The adopted plan is then put into service starting in January the following year.
The 2025 Transit Service Plan will be focused on transit service changes around frequency, hours of operation, and bus reroutes that may influence how you travel throughout the county. Changes include:
- Improvements in frequency (bus routes 23, 25, 66, 68), and one weekday frequency adjustment (bus route 77)
- Adjustments to school-oriented service to better meet student demand (bus routes 70, 270, 87, 287, 288, and 288M);
- Extension of morning hours on weekends (bus routes 26, 70);
- Combining several bus routes to accommodate ridership and increase productivity (bus routes 44, 47); and,
- Adjusting routes and schedules to maintain and provide the appropriate level of service for connections to Caltrain (bus route 89)
- Discontinue a service partnership route due to low ridership (SCVMC Shuttle)
Additionally, to leave room for these more urgent and impactful service changes in 2025, some service changes adopted in the 2024 Transit Service Plan are proposed to be put on hold to a future service plan when ridership warrants them.
