Creating livable, walkable, shoppable, and affordable communities near public transit is a major objective of VTA’s Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Program. And there are two upcoming opportunities to provide input on potential projects.
Working with municipal and private partners, VTA helps to facilitate the development of housing, retail, and employment centers on VTA-owned properties located in areas that will help increase transit ridership and improve the quality of life in communities throughout Santa Clara County.
VTA is now looking for community input on proposed affordable housing opportunities at the Gilroy Transit Center, and San Jose’s Branham Light Rail Station. Virtual public meetings will be held April 22 on the Gilroy project, and April 28 on the Branham Station project. This is the third public meeting to discuss the community’s vision for the Gilroy Transit Center location, located next to the Caltrain station on Monterey Highway and 7th Street.
Based on community input at the first two virtual gatherings, VTA has come up with conceptual designs for the Gilroy development. April 22 is another chance to voice your suggestions on design ideas and features that will make the area around the Gilroy Transit Center more inviting to live, work and shop. The April 22 Gilroy Transit Center public meeting begins at 6 p.m. Click here to register and get the Zoom link.
On April 28, VTA will host a community meeting to introduce the proposed development that could include home ownership at the Branham Light Rail Station, located at Branham Lane and Narvaez Avenue in South San Jose. We look forward to hearing your ideas to help shape the planning of the proposed development. Click here to register for and access the April 28 meeting on Zoom.
VTA is partnering with the Santa Clara County Office of Supportive Housing, which administers the 2016 Measure A Affordable Housing Bond, in an effort to ensure that developers are building transit oriented housing for everyone.
