Seattle, WA, USA - Multipronged Approach to Transit
The City of Seattle takes a multi-pronged policy approach to putting transit first. The Transit Master Plan sets forth specific transit priority policies and an implementation plan to achieve the City’s vision of transit as the preferred mode of travel. Policy implementation is supported by municipal code 11.52.230, which grants the City Traffic Engineer the authority to reserve any portion of a street for the exclusive use of public transportation vehicles. In 2022, the city will add a Transit Lane Policy that directs staff to implement bus lanes across the County bus operator’s frequent transit network to ensure bus travel is time-competitive and preferable to travel by automobiles.
