Bus Operator Job Functions
- Operates a motor coach safely and in accordance with a designated schedule;
- Picks up and drops off passengers at designated bus stops;
- Collects fares and sells day passes;
- Aids passengers in boarding or departing the motor coach as needed;
- Operates the wheelchair lift when necessary and secures passengers' wheelchairs;
- Calls out stops and provides information to passengers;
- Maintains order on the motor coach;
- Operates a two-way radio;
- Prepares accident and incident reports;
- Keeps records;
- Performs related work as required.
- You will be represented by a union and full-time shifts will be assigned on a seniority basis. This position is a full-time position.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Class C driver's license (at the time of appointment)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California Class B license.
- Knowledge of safe driving practices.
Your Operator career at VTA begins as an Operator Trainee. In the first 6 months, your salary will be $26.80/hr. You must successfully complete training to promote to the Operator classification.
At the time of appointment as an Operator Trainee, you MUST possess a Class B permit with Passenger (P) and Air Brakes endorsements AND receive a DOT physical clearance that is valid for a minimum of six months.
