The on-ramp closure is necessary to allow VTA-led construction crews to hoist a pedestrian overcrossing bridge section into place to connect Xander’s Crossing west of the freeway with the heavily traveled Coyote Creek Trail to the east. A very large crane will lift up and slowly swing the bridge section onto its supporting columns. If you happen to live in one of the adjacent homes, you’ll be able to get a great view from your backyard in the early morning hours on May 11.
The greatly anticipated pedestrian overcrossing will serve as an important bicycle and pedestrian transportation connection in the south county region. In the coming months, work will continue on the pedestrian overcrossing to install privacy screening, walkway lighting, and the concrete deck. The pedestrian overcrossing should be open and ready for foot and bike traffic by September 2022.
