In an effort to ease the loss of service for tens of thousands of riders during the current labor strike, VTA is offering vouchers for Uber service of up to $5.00 for each ride with a maximum of 2 rides per day.  Rides must begin and end at a VTA bus stop, light rail stop or transit center (ideally a location where you can be safely picked up by Uber) and must be ordered on Uber's mobile app.  

The rideshare company has geo-coded all of VTA's transit stops onto the app so that the system knows when a ride is being hailed in close proximity to a VTA stop.  Riders will pay the first $2.50 of any qualified ride, after which a $5.00 voucher will take effect.  Any additional costs after the $5.00 voucher will also be paid by the customer.  

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
  1. Download the Uber app to your iOS or Android mobile device.
  2. Ensure that you have redeemed the voucher.  The $5.00 voucher should be applied directly to your account. The voucher will be automatically applied once the app recognizes that you are near a VTA bus stop.
  3. When you are ready to begin your trip, go to the bus stop nearest your starting location.
  4. Once you see the voucher under the "Payment" tab, then "Voucher" section, you can now call for an Uber ride as you normally would.
  5. Enter the destination in the "Where to?" box. From there you can use the "Current Location" for pick up.
  6. Once your Uber driver arrives, double-check their license plate to ensure this is your correct ride.
  7. Complete your ride and continue to your final destination.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE OFFER

  • Offer is valid only during this specific VTA service disruption as caused by the ATU work stoppage.
  • Effective March 24, 2025, the $5.00 voucher is limited to a maximum of 2 rideshare trips on Uber per day ($5.00 x 2 trips = $10.00).
  • You will initially be charged a $2.50 fare. The $5.00 voucher will then be applied automatically to every qualifying trip. Any trip that costs over the $5.00 voucher will also be paid by the rider.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Limited to one code per person. Can only be used by the first person who redeems the code. Non-transferable. Limited Availability. No cash value. One-time use only. Maximum discount of $5.00 per redemption. Maximum of 2 trips per account per day.  Uber Vouchers may only be redeemed for specific types of rides.  

To redeem the discount, Uber voucher code must be applied to the Payment section of the Uber App prior to requesting the intended trip.

Uber Voucher valid  between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting March 24, 2025 and will terminate when regular transit service resumes.  Uber Voucher is only valid for trips placed through the Uber app. Taxes and other fees will be covered provided that the value of the Uber Voucher is greater than the total order amount.

Offer is non-transferable, subject to change or cancellation.
