What

Modifications to the existing overhead catenary system (OCS) extending south of the Alum Rock Transit Center.

Why

The modifications will clear the path for the EBRC project construction in the tail track area along S. Capitol Avenue. VTA will be installing foundations for future OCS poles south of the Capitol Avenue and Maybury grade crossing.

Detour

Vehicles detour via Capitol Avenue and Alum Rock Avenue.

Pedestrians and bikes can detour at Florence.

Community Impacts

The intersection of Wilbur @ Capitol Avenue will be closed. This will result in the following: 

  • VTA Transit Service Impacts 
  • Traffic Impacts (no left turns at Wilbur) Cars can U-turn at Capitol Expressway or Alum Rock Avenue.
  • No pedestrian crossing at Wilbur - pedestrians are advised to cross at Florence.
  • Crews are working 24 hours a day
    • Noise
    • Lights
    • Dust
    • Construction vehicles in/out of work area and backup alarms required by OSHA for safety.

Service Impacts

This activity closes requires power to be turned off to the Alum Rock station. Like a string of Christmas lights - powering down one station causes additional closures to Hostetter.

As of March 10, due to an ATU Union Strike, there isn't bus or light rail service until further notice.

Traffic Impacts

No left turns at Wilbur. 

Follow detour and traffic signs and flaggers.

Pedestrian Impacts

Cross Capitol Avenue using the light and crosswalk located on Florence. The Wilbur intersection will be closed to pedestrians.

Follow direction from signage, and flaggers.

Bicycle Impacts

Cross Capitol Avenue using the light and crosswalk located on Florence. The Wilbur intersection will be closed to pedestrians.
